The professionals who work in the salon and beauty industry have a unique opportunity to be the first line of help for survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. Most members of the many NWA communities and cultures frequently receive services from salons and spas. As a result, our various outreaches focused on sexual assault within specific communities have joined together to create the Salons Supporting Survivors project to provide a line of defense and assistance for those who provide professional care services to all of the communities of NWA.
This program provides appointment cards to salons that offer a discreet QR code for emergency services/resources that can be accessed by a client without the knowledge of a perpetrator. Each business receives a reference card that outlines best practice for a safe and immediate response, as well as, red flags of domestic violence and human trafficking. In addition, trainings specific to working with clients of domestic violence and human trafficking tailored to the salon and beauty industry is, also, provided, if a salon chooses to request this service. Finally, salons have access to our office and hotline phone numbers anytime they have questions or need advice on handling a situation.
