Anemkwoj jen Kakkure (AJK) was created to start the conversation about sexual assault and sexual harassment in the Marshallese community.
In the Marshallese language there is no word for sexual assault, instead a description of the word is used. Speaking about sexual assault is taboo in the Marshallese culture, allowing perpetrators get away with it and making those victimized by the violence too ashamed and afraid to come forward about it.
NWA Center for Sexual Assault hosts this event annually for the NWA community as a way to help liberate Marshallese survivors from shame, increase awareness of rape culture and consent, and combat the negative stigma associated with speaking out.
Please join us on Saturday, May 27 to promote this important cause. Bring your friends and family for an afternoon at the park—there will be a resource fair and food, drinks, and entertainment will be provided!
